I haven’t stopped thinking about Kobe Bryant today. Been thinking about how such a tragedy could occur, the meaning behind it…and then I realized that’s not the way to think about it.

When bad things happen, its important to find the silver lining, and the silver lining I see is people all over the world, coming together to celebrate this man’s life and greatness. He truly was a model for excellence and that model will live on for generations to come.

This is one of my favorite interviews of his and the mindset that made him great.

Key Takeaways:

1) Be competitive. You may not be everybody’s friend, but they will respect you and you will bring the best out of them.

2) Play to your weaknesses. Get better at the areas where you struggle that are important to your game. Do not shirk the responsibility of having to improve yourself.

3) Get over yourself. Public failure isn’t about your ego. Suck it up and analyze the situation for what it was. Ignore the commentary and get to the root of the problem.

4) When the game is on the line, play with a sense of urgency. Forget about your own pain, you can worry about that after. Focus on the moment at hand, and thrive through it.

5) Define your life on your own terms. Circumstances do not define you, you define you. Period.
